What celebrations do you cover?
Any! It doesn’t need to be a birthday. Maybe it’s buying your first home, an engagement, the arrival of a new pet, your little one’s christening or their first day of school. If you have a celebration you would like to mark, let me know and we can discuss the best way to create those lasting memories.
Do you photograph events?
No. These photoshoots are to create a memento of a special occasion. I’m afraid I do not photograph weddings, christenings, birthday parties or other events.
How do I decide what kind of shoot I want for my little one’s birthday?
In our pre-shoot consultation, we will discuss your little one in-depth. What do they like doing? What are their favourite toys? Do they like being outdoors amongst nature? How do I want to remember this age? Through this chat, we can decide whether an outdoor or studio based photoshoot is best. Some may choose indoors over the colder months, especially if they have special outfits they would like included, whereas others just want to see their child out in the elements, wellies, coats and all!
When is the best time of day for my celebration photoshoot?
The best time for outdoor photoshoots is when you are either the morning or the late afternoon-evening when the sun is lower in the sky. The midday sun can cast hard shadows and reduce our options for photos. However, you also need to consider what time of day is best for your children; do they nap? When are they in the best mood to ‘perform’ for the camera?
What happens on the day?
We will agree on a time and place to meet. I like to take a few minutes to get to know you or your little ones, we can have a quick chat about your images and particular shots you might want and then we’ll set off.
What happens if the weather is bad for my outdoor celebration shoot?
If it is forecast to rain, we can do one of two things; we can reschedule your photoshoot to another day, or if the rain is light and you are happy to don your raincoats and wellies and persevere, then we can enjoy a fun photoshoot enjoying umbrellas and puddle jumping! The choice is yours!
What should we wear for our celebration photoshoot?
Always dress so you feel comfortable! But to really make your images look as special as possible, I recommend taking time to plan your family’s clothing. Be yourself! Think about what clothes define the sort of photoshoot you want! If that means raincoats and wellies – go for it! Avoid any obvious labels on clothes or bold patterns. These can be distracting in the images when all eyes should be on you! You may want to opt for subtle neutral colours. This includes whites and pastel shades such as creams, pinks and blues. Strong, rich, bold colours can work well too! Such as deep pinks, rich purples and navy blues.
Who can be included in my celebration photoshoot?
Celebration photographs focus on the reason you are celebrating, so if it is for a birthday then the birthday boy/girl will be the focus of the images. I will take a couple of images of other family members too, but if you would like more family photos, or to extended family members, then you may want to book a full family photoshoot.
What should I bring with me for my celebration photoshoot?
You may want to include some special elements to your celebration photoshoots. Please bring whatever you feel will add to the images – special gifts, scan photos, balloons, favourite toys etc.
We can discuss this in your pre-shoot consultation.
